Week of Nov 2, 4

For class this week we were supposed to come up with a different version of the game Battle Battle. Or maybe a slightly different but still similar version of Battle Battle would be probably be a better description. A big part of this process was incorporating an enemy or boss into the game. My group decided that on our enemies, that we would incorporate into the game, would be Exes. Like an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend to be more specific. So we came up with multiple different cards that had different exes both boys and girls. We ended up having 12 cards in total of Exes which I think is a solid amount because it means more variety of enemies to play against. The more variety makes it more replayable and I feel like it makes the game more unique. Not just for our game but for most games generally speaking. Our game was similar to the other games that we saw in class. The way the game works is you put 5 Exes cards face up on the table to start. These cards have how much health they individually have and how much damage they do on them. Same goes for the cards the players are using called the bestie cards. You then would roll against one of the Exes cards. If you roll higher then the Ex you get to deal the appropriate damage to them based on your card’s stats. Same thing if the Ex wins but vice versa. You would go around the table taking turns to roll until someone runs out of health points. If it’s a player that loses you would get back with your Ex resulting in defeat. To win as the players you work together to strategize and figure out the best way to take out the Exes together. If you succeed in taking out all 5 of the playable Exes you win the game. This being said our game is a game where its all of the players playing our trying to take out the Exes cards. Which aren’t real players but rolling for them makes it the game work. As far as making changes based on feedback from the class or group didn’t really get to playtest it and figure out what to change until the last day. I think seeing what the other groups did and playing their games helped a lot and coming up with the ideas for our game though. That way we could take all of the elements that we like our didn’t like and use that knowledge to do the best we could with the time we had. This also meant that we kind of had to just play around with our game while we were developing it to try and balance it out. Doing that with some of the information we got watching other group’s game made doing that easier. Overall it was one of the more fun assignment in my opinion. I liked it a lot because we got to make some cool cards and a cool theme for them. I really liked designing the enemy as you play as well and figuring out how do we balance the them to where they’re not to easy to beat but not impossible either. I think it helped the creative side of game designing come out a lot.
